Popis produktu

The book Intimacy, the Body and the Home offers interdisciplinary perspectives on the theme of intimacy in Central European thought and culture. It connects philosophy with literary studies, aesthetics, film, and historiography, and in eleven chapters divided into three thematic sections, it examines intimacy as a space of closeness, depth, physicality, sexuality, but also the relationships between the personal and the collective, the internal and the external, man and nature, or the familiar and the foreign. The book also includes the first English translations of selected texts by three authors: Jan Patočka and his Chapters in Contemporary Philosophy, Petr Rezek and Phenomenology of Sexuality, and two essays by Milan Šimečka from the collection Circular Defence.

The foreword to the book was written by Saulius Geniusas, who evaluates the book as follows: „This volume resuscitates intimacy as a highly important concept in philosophical anthropology and philosophy of culture. By thematizing a topic that otherwise remains neglected in intellectual discussions, this volume leads to the realization that intimacy is of profound existential, ethical and cultural significance“.

The book is accompanied by artworks of the prominent sculptor Maria Bartuszová, which also serve as a source of reflection on intimacy and its importance in close relationships with others, nature, and creativity.
